Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about music lessons with Lucas Eaton.

Most children can begin piano lessons around age 5, when they can recognize letters and numbers, sit still for short periods, and have developing hand-eye coordination. Lucas offers age-appropriate instruction that makes learning fun and engaging for young students. For children younger than 5, we recommend waiting a bit longer to ensure a positive first experience.
Voice lessons are generally recommended for students age 12 and older, once the voice has begun to mature. Younger students interested in singing can explore vocal concepts through our piano lessons, which include elements of ear training and musicianship that prepare them for future vocal study.
For your free introductory lesson, just bring yourself and your enthusiasm! No books or materials are needed. Lucas will assess your current level (or help complete beginners get started) and discuss your goals. After the first lesson, he'll recommend any books or materials you'll need going forward.
Having access to a keyboard or piano at home is important for practicing between lessons. A full 88-key piano is ideal, but a quality 61-key weighted keyboard works well for beginners. Lucas can help you choose an appropriate instrument for your level and budget during your introductory lesson.
Monthly tuition starts at $120 for 30-minute lessons, $160 for 45-minute lessons, and $200 for 60-minute lessons. This covers 4 weekly lessons per month. Your first introductory lesson is always free with no obligation. Visit our Pricing page for full details.
Lessons cancelled with at least 24 hours notice may be rescheduled within the same month, subject to availability. Lessons missed without 24-hour notice are unfortunately forfeited. If Lucas needs to cancel, the lesson will always be rescheduled or credited to your account.
Currently, Lucas offers in-person lessons only at his studio in McLendon-Chisholm. In-person instruction allows for the best quality of sound, immediate feedback on technique, and a more engaging learning experience. He serves students from McLendon-Chisholm, Rockwall, Heath, Fate, and surrounding areas.
Every student progresses at their own pace, and music is a lifelong journey. Most beginning piano students can play simple songs within a few weeks. After 6-12 months of consistent practice and weekly lessons, students typically have a solid foundation. The key is regular practice at home and consistent weekly lessons.
Yes! Lucas organizes recitals throughout the year in a supportive, encouraging environment. These events are wonderful opportunities for students to set goals, gain performance experience, and celebrate their progress. Participation is encouraged but never required.
Piano students study primarily classical technique with the flexibility to explore contemporary, hymns, and popular music as interests develop. Voice students can study classical, sacred music, musical theatre, and contemporary styles. Lucas tailors repertoire to each student's interests while ensuring a strong technical foundation.
Absolutely! It's never too late to start or return to music. Adult students often make rapid progress because of their motivation, life experience, and ability to practice effectively. Lucas loves working with adult learners and creates a relaxed, judgment-free environment where adults can pursue their musical dreams.
